FAQs
Who is your typical client?
We work with those who have more than $500,000 for us to manage for them. This allows us to ensure we can spend the time we need to personalize your experience with us.
Where will my assets be held?
For your protection, your assets will be held (custodied) by Schwab as an independent 3rd party. This provides you with an additional layer of protection as Schwab will update the values of your assets and report your account values to you through your online access or statements. This removes a potential conflict of interest and further protects you as a client.
Why did you choose Schwab as your custodian?
We chose Schwab because they are by far the largest custodian for Registered Investment Advisors with an incredible breadth of resources available that we believe is second to none. We felt it was important to marry the personal approach provided by Eagle Bluffs Wealth Management with the resources of a much larger institution to give our clients the best of both worlds.
How can I be sure that my assets are safe?
There are several layers of protection provided to ensure the safety of your assets. The first is that, as discussed above, Schwab is acting as custodian. Schwab currently custodies over $1.5 trillion in assets. Beyond this layer, there are several levels of insurance provided by Schwab for your protection through SIPC and Lloyds of London. Together, they protect up to $600 million in assets per client. Click here for more details about these protections.
How much will it cost to transfer assets?
It is our intention to cover all the fees involved in the transfer process and we would certainly discuss this with you in advance should this not be the case. Most commonly we will transfer assets in kind. Meaning that most assets will be able to stay invested during the transfer process. This helps in several ways, first there is no market risk introduced by buying and selling with a gap of time during the transfer process, we are typically able to purchase and sell assets at a lower cost (for stocks, exchange-traded funds and many mutual funds we actually have no transaction costs through Schwab), and this allows us to better manage the tax implications from selling securities.
How long does it take to transfer assets?
The process for transferring assets is fairly painless. After providing us with current statements and signing our transfer paperwork, we will handle the rest. The process typically takes less than 3 weeks.
